RMR E-News September 4, 2018

Hello RMR Faithful!

We are 10 days out from opening for upland bird hunting.  September 15th we will start shooting Pheasant, Chukar and the ever popular GIANT QUAIL (see below what a Giant Quail is!!)

REMEMBER—

You will hear the mantra over and over…don’t go fast, keep your dogs hydrated (it helps their ability to smell scents better and it will allow them to hunt longer in the warmer temps—cooler ones too!) and don’t over look the grasses and the edges of the crop areas.
IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN DOGS and want to hunt in the afternoon, you can, but be very careful and cognizant of the heat.  Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are a concern during the fall.  Bring a 5 gallon jug of water for your dogs and water for you, too!  Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are common in hunting dogs especially during this time of year.  Keep them hydrated, carry water in your vehicle and a quart or two in your vest.  Rest them often and make sure they drink.  YOU NEED TO DRINK TOO!!

The key is to drink water and make sure they drink water OFTEN, too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!
RMR is opening our 33rd Year on September 15 and we are so excited to have you out to get your dogs on birds and blow the cobwebs out of your shotgun.
      OUR BIRTHDAY PRESENT TO YOU!!
The first 33 people that email us or call to make a reservation, we are giving you a great Bird-Day Offer!
If you hunt between September 15 and September 25, you can shoot 5 pheasants and 5 chukar for only $120 per gun!  Two hunts for the price of one.  This offer is per person, and if you need a guide you still need to pay the $50 guide fee per group (not per person)

This 10 day special will put more birds in your bag and more birds in the field to start the season off.  Not good with any coupons or your regular hunts.  Members and their guests only. We only have guided hunts in the mornings at this point, too.

RMR MEMBER NEWS

Great news from Chuck Shellhouse–6 mo checkup –no return of cancer!  Praise the Lord!  Keep it up Chuck and keep him in your prayers for continued health.  He believes in the power of prayer and so do we!!

One of our great friends and RMR member, Charlie Spanel, passed away August 31st.  Charlie was 91 and was a hunter beyond most imagination.  He was #52 in the Grand Slam Club and he passed along his passion of being in the outdoors to his sons Toby and Jeff.  Toby is still an RMR member and continues to share the sport with his daughter.
Charlie hunted with us last season and until just recently he was still big game hunting.  He was always making Bill and the gang laugh and just never let anything bring him down.   RMR is a better place thanks to Charlie…a super person indeed!

Please keep the Spanel family in your prayers.

Funeral services for Charlie Spanel are on September 6th at 11am.

GIANT QUAIL HUNTS
blank FOR 2018

We are taking reservations for the GIANT QUAIL hunts for this year.  These hunts are all day events and groups of up to four can harvest 100 Bobwhite Quail.  This is a fantastic workout for your dog or you can chose to have an RMR guide take you on the adventure.  The cost is still only $950 for members and their guests (Giant Quail hunt cost for non-members is $1250) and this is a limited opportunity.

We run these hunts from the first of October through December 15th.

You don’t have to pick a date now, but you do need to get your name on the list for a hunt or two.  There are 21 hunts left,  and we have started taking reservations for the fall.  Give us a call or email us to get on the list for one or two hunts!  719-635-3257

For more than 27 years, Rocky Mountain Roosters has had a great relationship with STILLWATER OUTFITTERS and Travis Reininger.

Travis is still giving the RMR folks the AWESOME discount for his waterfowl hunts, and he agreed to hold the price if you make a reservation to hunt before December 15th.   His price for the waterfowl hunts is $250, but RMR folks will save $50 per gun if you book a date between now and the end of the season, which is February 10, 2018.
You don’t have to hunt before the 15th of December to get the discount, but you do have to make a reservation to hunt.
CALL TRAVIS AT 303-659-8665 and tell him you are with RMR to get the $50 per gun discount.  DON’T WAIT and miss out on the RMR deal!!  You can see his website at www.stillwateroutfitters.net  and he is also under our affiliates on the Rocky Mountain Roosters home page.

HOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS
TO HUNT AT YOUR CLUB
blank
Here are the rules for you to make a reservation.  Remember that we have a 48 hour cancellation policy.  IF weather is so bad that it is unsafe to get to the club, we will cancel the hunt and will call you.  We do not want to endanger anyone, but we hunt in all sorts of weather.

If you call the office to make reservations, please speak slowly and leave your phone number….believe it or not we have more than one John or Jim as members!

The only number you call to make reservations is the office–719-635-3257.  If it is after hours during the week, leave a message and we will call you the next business day.   (Don’t call the clubhouse to make reservations….please!)

You can call the office Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm and make reservations by phone at 719-635-3257

You can also make reservations by email.  Email  hunt@rmroosters.com

When you email a reservation, we will reply to you to confirm the reservation.  You need to tell us how many hunters are in your group, if you will need a guide (are you hunting with your own dog or not) and what birds you want to shoot….Pheasants or Chukar or BOTH.  A mixed bag is lots of fun and you don’t have to care about what gets up to shoot at.

Do not email hunting reservations after 5pm on Friday….weekends.  We don’t always look at email during the weekends.  Call the office number and it will direct you to the clubhouse, if we are not in the office to get your call.

EMAIL OR PHONE…THOSE ARE THE TWO WAYS TO MAKE RESERVATIONS.  DO NOT CALL THE CLUBHOUSE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS (UNLESS IT IS ON THE WEEKEND)

REMEMBER!!!
There is a 48 hour cancellation policy.
We can not take more than 4 people in a party NO EXCEPTIONS!!
The guide fee is $50 per group, not per person.  1 to 4 hunters.
Hunts start at 8 and run until 11am or from 1 to 4pm.

CANCELLATIONS OR RESERVATIONS AFTER HOURS OR ON THE WEEKENDS–
Don’t leave messages on the office recorder after 5pm on Friday for reservations or cancellations.  We won’t get them until Monday.  Do not email on weekends either.  If you have a cancellation, you must call so we are 100% sure we get the message that you can’t make your hunt.  Don’t email or text (we don’t do texts)
GET READY FOR BIG GAME SEASON
and BIRD SEASON

RIFLE RANGE RULES

The cost to use the rifle range is ONLY $10 per person for the day.  It’s that cheap because we want you to use RMR’s range rather than shooting up trees in the forest.
You must check in and get one of the wood target stands and you need to put your PAPER target on these stands.  You can use tape or staples. This is the only thing you shoot…PAPER targets on the WOOD stands.
If you see ANYONE damaging the range or shooting other than paper (cans, bottles, 8 track tape decks etc…) tell us and we will take appropriate action.

ALSO!!!!  DO NOT DRIVE ON ANY GROUND THAT DOES NOT HAVE A 2-TRACK ROAD!  Not only at the rifle range, but ANYWHERE on the club property.  STAY ON THE ROADS!!

The ranges are open and we are on summer hours, as you know.  Tuesday through Saturday.
The clay target ranges are open daily 8-5pm  Let us know you are coming so we can have someone to meet you at the clubhouse and get you set up to break some clays!!

TWO FOR THE ROAD

I was visiting my daughter last night when I asked if I could borrow a newspaper.

“This is the 21st century,” she said. “We don’t waste money on newspapers. Here, use my iPad.”.

I can tell you this… That fly never knew what hit him!

Heart warming Lawyer story—-
One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine. When he saw two men along the roadside eating grass. Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and he got out to investigate.
He asked one man, “Why are you eating grass ?”
“We don’t have any money for food,” the poor man replied. “We have to eat grass.”
“Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I’ll feed you,” the lawyer said.
“But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there eating grass under that tree.”
“Bring them along,” the lawyer replied.
Turning to the second poor man he stated, “You may come with us, also.”
The other man, in a pitiful voice, then said, “But sir, I also have a wife and six children with me!”
“Bring them all as well,” the lawyer answered.
They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine.
Once under way, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, “Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you.”

The lawyer replied, “Glad to do it. You’ll really love my place.
The grass is almost a foot high.”

Come on . . . did you really think there was such a thing as a heart-warming lawyer story?
